As you can see from the title I suffer from mobage fatigue, honestly' it’s really starting to make me hesitant to play. For instance, I haven’t login or playing AK for more than a month despite i am religiously playing it and always login every day.
There’s a lot to unpack, but first let’s start with mobage model as a product, as you can see majority of mobage are live services game meaning it’s a game with ‘‘incomplete’’ product and always update every month, every month there’s always new thing like new event, new stories, new gameplay, new materials, new character, etc wow meaning I have to grind or farm for it! It’s really different from traditional full service game where the product are already complete and most of the ‘‘update’’ are simply minor patch to fixing bug but the end product is still the same and didn’t change. mobage itself isn’t inherently bad! I like how because of mobage live service model mean they have to learn how to experiment to gauge fresh interest for keeping up their audience or hook new audience in, especially in art and visual department I’d say mobage beating full service game in that regard, however because of that live service model that it also one of many negative aspect and problem of mobage itself. it feel’s like a chore, because of the ‘‘ongoing product’’ like model that it feel you have to catch up somehow and have to grind and getting new character/materials blablablabla. that’s what happen to me i guess, playing full service game honestly makes me can appreciate video games more as an art and entertainment more than live service game, I can take my time and enjoy every piece of the food it given to me from gameplay, story, game design and most importantly the way how i can enjoy the product without feeling like a chore.
‘‘but there’s grind in trad games’’ sure but you can just take a break and continue the grind later WITHOUT feeling like you’ve been ‘‘left out’’, mobage and live service game aren’t like that. The method of mobage and LS game was made to ‘‘keep the player playing’’, thus why you have to grind. Come to think about it, from my experience playing mobage i can only keep up and religiously playing one mobage/live service game such as kancolle, fgo, gbf and now AK. i legit cannot keep up with more than one mobage…. how the hell people can do it is beyond me lmao.
And now the second is the story, as you can see im huge lorefreak and storyfreak in any video games, it’s one of thing I truly paid attention, most mobage has interesting concept and lore such as GBF and AK but one thing I HATE FROM MOBAGE is they can EASILY RETCON the lore for the sake of gacha or popularity (gbf is a huge example of this) this is what pissed me off, it’s like everything i have been invested was a huge waste, why should i bother to care and being invested if in the end they will just retcon and changed it, you rarely see this on trad games. even AK also has some minor retcon on lore.
i remember i talked about this with my friend on discord, that one of issue with mobage as lorefag and character nerd like us is the ‘‘chasing illusion’’ part, basically in mobage for example you’re invested with X as a character you love them because of their trait, design, fetish, etc now the issue is X as a character isn’t that popular so you left with choice that X will never get content ever or getting some serious content that you can savor, ‘‘okay but what if X is popular” then you will see dev will MILK them to death it’s not enough for alter but they will bastardizing character until…..it become totally different character why you love X in first place, there’s nothing agonizing feeling seeing your faves characterization/lore/story get bastardized it’s like people take aways your fav doll and then they will ‘‘redesign’’ your fave until it become something you dislike, and even worse if you come to hate the character itself due of bastardization. I never wish this happen to anyone.
okay, i might sound dramatic but because it happens to me and my friend it legit one of the worst feeling seeing you start hating character you once loved.
Anyway, that’s my thought why i got mobage fatigue. I am actually glad I write this thought and I feel like blew off steam lmao.
